A professional actor for over 20 years, I've worked and lived in New York City where frankly, the greatest acting schools are right on the streets.
I'd like to thank Louie, the former bookie turned neighborhood car parker for telling me some of the most inappropriate jokes I've ever heard and laughing his head off while I cringed; the brillo-haired homeless woman who in her few moments of lucidity always pointed out how lovely the roses smell on my block; Michael, one of my many garbage can rummagers for bringing me little treasures that he would find in an effort to "re-pay" my cash gifts to him; and yes, even Sabrina, the "psychic" who approached me in Duane Reade and claimed to sense my chakras and then asked me to buy her a tube of Neosporin (you can't make these things up).
These are my true teachers, the eccentric folks stripped of airs, who live their lives with naked emotion and no apologies.
As an actor, and as a person, I can only be so lucky.
